MKM Mid-day action: Hull City vs. Millwall
This weekend, the Tigers will be searching for their first win of the league season as they host a stubborn Millwall side.
Both Millwall and City haven't had a perfect start to the 2024/25 season, with Tigers opening with a pair of draws and Millwall being dealt a pair of losses; this game is crucial to get the season up and running for both sides.
Millwall's first two games were exciting, with them losing out by just 1 goal both times. The first was a 3-2 loss to Watford, and the second was a 4-3 loss to Bristol (whom the Tigers drew 1-1 on the opening day).
Both these games were good examples of Millwall's attacking threat, with five goals in the first two games, but they also showed their defensive issues, as they conceded 7. These issues almost directly parallel those of Tim Walters' side so far, with some promise of free-flowing, direct football paired with some less-than-ideal defensive displays. So, looking at the surface, it is shaping up to be a very tense game.
Neil Harris will likely line up in a balanced 4-3-2-1 structure, with their danger men being Bradshaw up front and Watmore off the left, who has scored 3 in 2 games. This could cause a problem for the Tigers, as defensively, they are still adapting to Tim Walters' style of play, so taking on the front four of Millwall, who are well-established together, may be an issue.
However, it is important to note that the Tiger's influx of new recruits could make this game unpredictable and favourable to the Tigers. Recent signings Charlie Hughes and Oscar Zambrano could add to the defensive stability if they make an appearance tomorrow.
Overall, at this stage in the season, it is very tough to call the outcome of these games, especially with the Tigers still adapting to Walter Ball. However, looking at the things we know, this should be an exciting, attacking game of football, with both teams preferring to be on the front foot.
My prediction is 2-1 Hull
